We've been polio free for some time thanks to the polio vaccine.
    Anti-vaxxers hate this.

I am personally vaccinated but I defend the right of others to make their own decision.

I think in general anti vaxxers dont "hate" vaccines and their noble objective but some are concerned at the effect on their children's health and distrust bureaucrats who have their own agenda and pharmaceutical company driven by profit,

Not all vaccines are equal and some have dubious ethical associations. I also have concerns at the increasing numbers and cocktail affect of these injections. There are genuine side affects and risks that have to be disclosed and aren't.

as above the herd immunity doesn't require 100% uptake and allows for a minority that choose i(n good conscience) not to vaccinate (and or cant be considered for one).

What concerns me more is this ideological fervour to force people against their will. This is just hysteria and frankly this is the ''stupid part of this debate.

The latest outbreak of measles is because of the actions of anti-vaxxers.
You don't appear to be one.

    that may not be fair
    read this
    https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-...fficer-reveals

of 28 cases 4 were fully vaccinated
6 had only had one of two vaccinations
12 are "under investigation? what ever that means?

by my maths 22 out of 28 may have been immumnised but still got measles. You want to blame anti-vaxxers but there seems to be a failing in the effectiveness of vaccinations even for the vaccinated?

    Just asking????

Are we getting the full story here? Why the superficial coverage to this discrepency?

I get triggered by the anti vaccination movement. So many preventable child illnesses.

    Ah, statistics.
Let's say you are right and 22 were vaccinated out of 28 cases of measles.
22 out of 28 - pretty strong odds at first glance that suggest vaccines don't work.
However, you are missing (or maybe the reporter failed to mention) the other side of the coin:
How many people were vaccinated and didn't get measles?
Do you think there would be 10,000 in Christchurch who have been vaccinated for measles?
And only 28 people with measles?
So the situation may be 28 people out of 10,000 where the vaccine didn't work.
Not quite so alarming, is it?
So the vaccine is working really well.
    The anti-vaxxers are still stupid.
I wouldn't force them to be vaccinated but I'm quite happy to tar-and-feather them for their stupidity.
    Talking to them doesn't work.

surely personal responsibility means you take care of yourself

you do not vaccinate at your own risk?

I appreciate there may be degree of negligence with some parents who are just too lazy to care and they are the same ones who dont take care of their children when they are sick. (and keep them home when sick).

At the end of the day this is what this about really? Instrad of making parents take care of their sick children and teaching them how we force mass immunization on everyone to try and catch the lower end of the socio economic spectrum.

but whatever there must be allowance for those making theior own informed decsions and your premise that "anti-vaxxers are stupid" removes any dignity from your argument
