    bbc just said that world-wide

the last calendar year saw a 300% rise in the number of children infected by measles over the year before

apparently the most infectious disease most of us are ever likely to encounter

can't find a link that the radio story came from, so here's similar

300% just means that last year there was 1 and this year there are 3.

that article says 695 in a country of 350million??? More people probably die falling off ladders and we don't hear the same hysteria about them?

In chch 4 out of the 12 cases were fully vaccinated so please explain that?

why the big outcry? perhaps the vested interest from the pharmaceutical and health professional with their own agendas?

perople dont die from measles but from the complications?

if so the answer is better education on care of unvaccinated?

      Measles complications

Measles can be life threatening: about 1 in 10 people with measles will need hospital treatment.
Measles can also lead to other complications, including:
      • ear infections (which can cause permanent hearing loss)
      • diarrhoea
      • pneumonia
      • seizures
      • swelling of the brain – this is rare, but can cause permanent brain damage or death.

Up to 30% of people with measles will develop complications – usually children under 5 and adults over the age of 20.
Measles during pregnancy increases the risk of miscarriage, premature labour and low birth-weight babies.

New Zealand is one of just seven countries to have officially wiped out home-grown cases of measles and rubella, according to the World Health Organisation. Since 2012 all cases have originated overseas.

        until mass vaccinations

        measles killed millions a year

after mass vaccinations the death rate dropped to about 100,000 a year

        if it's on the rise

        and 300,000 die in 2019

        should anything be done?

Measles causes encephalitis and pneumonia and before mass vaccination began in the 1980s, measles killed nearly 2.6 million people a year, according to the World Health Organization.
It still kills more than 100,000 people a year, mostly children under five.
One in 1,000 people who catch measles die of it.

They have no basic right to walk amongst us if they refuse to vaccinate.

            BK this is insane

you talk as if the unvaccinated are causing the problem

the anti vaxers are not causing the measles. They are the victims?

Can someone please explain if the mortality rates are signs of inadequate treatment of the complications or directly related to the measles. My understanding is that all the complications are treatable and neglect is the issue?
...and from that link to WHO...... (do you really trust these guys??
As a young doctor, he treated a child who wasn't vaccinated and contracted measles that led to a rare and chronic disorder of the central nervous system.
"And I can tell you, you don't want any child to go through that. That was a result of not being vaccinated, getting the disease and then getting one of the, admittedly rare, complications of disease.
"Measles is a serious disease. Even in developed countries now, one in five thousand children who gets measles will die."
Worldwide, measles kills almost 400 children every day while over 100 thousand babies are born every year with serious disabilities after being exposed to rubella in the womb.
surely we have this out of perspective?
The United Nations reports that over 7.6 million people die annually throughout the world because of hunger or a hunger-related cause. This means about 21,000 people, on average, die every day because of food insecurity. That’s one person every 4 seconds.
A great majority of these deaths are typically children.

Worldwide 300000 per year measles vs 7.6 million hunger? (830per day measles vs 21000 hunger)What is going on here people? Is this not another example of 1st world self interest?

And I'd defend the right of play centres etc to not allow those unvaccinated children on their premise.

but if your child is vaccinated there is no danger?? or is the issue really that many vaccinations are ineffective??

                what is the truth here?

I believe a number don't work - this is where herd immunity comes in.
Along with those to young to be vaccinated (who may also be in the building).

I have been accused of illogical thinking but this seems more applicable to those pushing for mandatory vaccinations?

I suggest banning unvaccinated at pre schools and school is really just strong arm tactics to force the issue.

i agree John that making vaccinations mandatory results in a loss of freedom

but so is having to stop at red lights and stop signs

                          and hand in ak47s

You are looking at this differently to everyone else.
The unvaccinated are catching measles and spreading it around.
                            They are the problem.
Some people they spread it to will die.
They are killers (is that slightly over the top? - just trying to convey to you how wrong your position is).

Would you agree with this compromise - all anti-vaxxers should make contact with someone with measles and get infected.
They should be isolated for this short time.
They will then develop immunity and be similar to those who have been vaccinated.
                            Problem solved.
                            What is your response?

if you dont want measles then get a vaccination dont demonise those that in good conscience dont think it is right for them.

calling anti-vaxers killers is silly and emotive BS.

The people who die are not looking after themselves and the complications kill them.

This is a seriously stupid remark.
A 6 month old baby is not looking after themselves properly?
A person who is immunocompromised (eg cancer patient) did not look after themselves?
You are focusing on freedom of choice and are totally blind to medicine.
