Nice find Artemis. I'd be keen to get some statistics on returning bond. Now the tenants can do what they like (hard to prove malicious intent) full bonds returns must be on the rise with Landlords unable to claim actual damage etc.

    -------------------

I wonder what our friend Roger has to say about this...rental properties may end up better than Landlords homes. Too true! There's only so much $$ to go around and the landlord's property is likely to be last on the list.

    Also in the same article.....

Homes are often not damp, it's the way the tenants live that's the issue.

    cheers,

    Donna

It's a pity that young reporters aren't very bright these days - which is why they don't realise that Whitaker is talking nonsense.
They should challenge him on why so many tenants fail to pay the rent and end up at the TT.
Compared to the number of landlords who fail to perform and also end up at the TT.

The artful dodger, aided and abetted by cranially-challenged media people.

    Time to re-hash Voltaire?

I disagree with what you say but defend to the death your right to successfully bullshit the media.

Mr Whitaker might be that and more, but Mr Twyford is listening to him and reading the reports they produce.

Meantime rents are increasing and so are shortages of rentals.

The Prime Minister in the House yesterday says the government is sorting it all out by building more houses. One day. Maybe. 211 not affordable Kiwibuild homes in Wanaka doesn't look like much of an answer.

I absolutely accept that rents have increased—I accept that. What I do not accept is that somehow the last Government had nothing to do with the issue that we are now facing. There is a supply issue. That was a Government who got rid of State houses and that did not address the lack of supply. Unlike that Government, we are turning the ship around; it just takes a bit of time to build houses.

If Artemis is right, who's presenting the counter points and how forcefully and with what amount of media coverage?

Blaming the previous incumbents is a waste of breath and time.

Talking about the problem achieves nothing.

Tell us what you're actually doing to fix the problem, including when and how, Taxcindarella.

18 of 10,000 in year one is absolutely not good enough.

All you and Dhil Twitford & co want, is to be seen and heard to be doing something about.

Not actually achieving anything practical and meaningful and significant that will do something about it.

Shame they're not paid on performance! And they're all the same politicising housing is just plain wrong and it's why we take a step forward and two or three backwards. They're falling over themselves to offer something different, change it up and in the process productivity slows. We'll be talking about this in 20, 30 years from now.

    cheers,

    Default Rent-a-Crowd of One

    Usual deceptive bullshit, here:
Sadly, now that our money is tied up in one huge asset, it gives us shelter and security, but it no longer has the opportunity to be directly invested in New Zealand businesses to get them started, or to help them grow.
Just what businesses they are is always - but always - never detailed.

    And it gets worse:
In New Zealand, owning a home will probably continue to be most people's first choice – but the scales should be rebalanced so that those who want to rent can enjoy German-style levels of security and stability.
Just what form "German-style" renting takes is ever-so-convenienty not mentioned, not detailed and side-stepped.

Shambolic InEquality man for parliament, I say!
