  • Demand for tenancy agreements from council

a friend is getting demands from council to hand over tenancy agreements with names and addresses to the council.

He is concerned at privacy issues.

Does council have power to demand such information?

I'd doubt it. And of course we know how they regularly make out they have certain powers but don't.

Make them cite which piece of legislation they are using.
    Squadly dinky do!

      Agree with David.

The IRD is almost totally exempt from the Privacy Act, but I don't think "Local Councils" are.

However, sometimes other Acts contain reference exclusions to the Privacy Act.

        Why would they need it?
