Thinking of purchasing a new family home to eventuality turn into a rental in the flat bush Auckland area, and coming across a lot of Chinese company built houses. They look great from the outside, and reasonably priced, but how reliable are they?
My wife is Chinese and she says that the general talk amongst the Chinese community is that they themselves wouldn't touch a Chinese built house with a barge pole. Apparently there are a lot of stories already from buyers finding faults and needing costly repairs within the first few months, and getting any warranty claim out of them is difficult.
I then see articles like 'Opportunist builders, dodgy steel and shonky standards create new building crisis 'worse than leaky homes'' in the papers this which seem to confirm my fears.
But is there really any merit to these concerns? Wouldn't a building report expose any faults?
