  • The crisis crisis

Is it just me or is everything in crisis these days Every other day there is a news articles that involve experts who claim the thing they're experts in is now a crisis... thought we could start a thread for everyone to inform other PTers of the latest crisis.

I hope people reading this don't have their own little crisis as we update these and some of these crises which in the past we might have called issues are rightly things that should be debated... others are laughable...

this would be very helpful for my own crisis of not being able to keep track of all the crises

    > the housing crisis
    > the p house crisis
    > I recall a potato crisis
    > The rental crisis
    > food prices crisis
    > pet rfid chip crisis (some of the chips have failed)
    > wages crisis - (nurses/teachers)
    > junk food crisis
    > sugary drinks crisis
    > the Syria crisis
    > the financial crisis
    - a quick google shows there are even websites dedicated to the latest crisis

Well this is what you get if you read mainstream media mate.

I haven't read it for around a year now and I can tell you it helps a lot.

If anything super major happens you hear about it via social media (I still read FaceBook, but certainly not any news sites on there) or via word of mouth. But you don't hear all the day to day BS. Nothing about Trump, Syria, and all the other things you linked to.

There are actually many good things happening out there. I read a newsletter by a couple of Aussie guys who find all the good news around the world and put it in one place: https://futurecrun.ch/. I donate a little to them each month too. Via Pa****n. They give all the money away to a charity every couple of months or so.

I am seeing businesses profit margins are decreasing fast as the cost of business is increasing an they can only increase prices to a certain extent.
Same goes for the rental market, profits are eroding .

I abominate social media; faecesbook in particular. That observed, PropertyTalk and one or two other select sources are ideal conduits for the right news. Places where reasonably intelligent people digitally gather to share insights, news and views.

Collectively, I suspect that we also act as a type of filter. Not just at screening out the garbage and sensationalism, but also at including things of importance which the trash media misses or ignores.

The "threat of the Healthy Homes Bill," combined with the requirement for all rental properties to be insulated by July next year, had forced some Dunedin landlords to sell, she said.

These properties had been snapped up by first-home buyers, further reducing the stock of rentals.

                    ...

and of course first home buyers won't have to insulate them

or otherwise comply with the "healthy homes" bill

as it is only targeted at accomodation providers...

                    never fear

                    twyford has a plan!

not a very warm or dry plan it's true

in fact much wetter and colder than the rentals they can no longer find

but it's a heartwarming plan with lots of hot air

and that'll have to be enough

                    ...if it's not

they could also try wrapping themselves

                    in the warm fuzzies

                    exhibited in this curious article

Curious article, indeed. Co-authored by Taxcindarella's speech writers and spin-doctors, perhaps?

Why is it curious? Just a list of what the government has done or not done isn't it?

Well, it is interspersed with certain oddities like proposing to make Maori language compulsory so as to cure the country's every ill.

                          Quite bizarre, that.

the headline asks a clear question

                            HOW ARE THEY DOING?

Simon Wilson gives his verdict on whether the Labour-led government is as ‘transformative’ as it said it would be.

                            and with 500? words

                            instead of answering it

                            finishes with 3 more questions

Is it possible to run an effective government powered by kindness?
If Ardern and her colleagues can show us the answer is yes, what would that change?
                            Almost everything?

                            asking questions is easy

                            an example

is it possible to have your cake and eat it?
If Ardern and her colleagues can show us the answer is yes, what would that change?
                            Almost everything?

                            feel any wiser?

or just confused by well meaning

                            but meaningless

                            twaddle

good luck paying the countries bills with that

                            when individuals try

they are called dreamrs at the start

con men or charlatans at the end

I'm always impressed how 'Traffic chaos' now means 'driving very slowly somewhere'. Weather Chaos (It rained and/or was a bit windy) is a win too.
