Before last Christmas day, I settled down one 4-bedroom property in one rural area. As one bed room with its own kitchen and toilet, I rent it to one single person. The other 3 rooms were rented to one family. Although there is one existing power meter for whole property, I’m going to install one additional power meter in order to properly measure each tenant power consuming situation and can charge them properly. (Currently I’m paying the electrical bill and found the power consuming increased dramatically in March. I’m worried about the electrical bill in winter time!)
Now I’m having the problem on how and where to install the second power meter, because the water pump from water tank are shared and some lighting system, e.g. the lights in garage, and security lights are shared as well. Do you think it's possible to split those shared power measurement?
If you have experience of renting property to 2 or more tenants, can you please share your experience with me on how to manage power split issue? Or your way to manage one property being rented out to more tenants? Thank you very much!
