On recommendation from the timber supplier I used Vermeister decking oil on parts of my brand new vitex deck rather than it greying off. However any weather exposed oiled vitex very quickly blackened off with mould. Unoiled area's went nicely grey. I'm looking at having to clean (oxygen bleach) off the whole thing now I know it will look patchy and terrible following it so will want to recoat/stain it but definitely not with the same oil. Does anyone have any recommendations e.g. cabots aquadeck

Cabbots Aquadeck is easy to use.
Parts of deck still go black though.
Have also used Resene deck oil - still goes black.
Black mould only under tree shaded part of the deck.
So best use of oil might be in the chainsaw? The three most harmful addictions are heroin, carbohydrates and a monthly salary - Fred Wilson.

I personally wouldn't use Cabots Aquadeck as it puts an acrylic type coating on the timber and is apparently a nightmare to get off if you change your mind or if it goes patchy - apparently quite a bit of care needs to be taken in applying it. We used Cabots Decking Oil (natural) on our Vitex deck and it came up great. We didn't do it as new because the tradies were all over it and it silvered off very quickly but last summer we gave it 3 good scrubs with the oxygenated product and then did two coats of decking oil. Just need to give it a good wash and re-apply the decking oil this year but haven't had time yet.
