Gattung says Fletcher wouldn't have foundered with a woman at the top

Fletcher Building wouldn't have hit its recent bout of trouble, had it had a woman in charge, one of New Zealand's highest-profile businesswomen says.
Former Spark boss, co-founder of My Food Bag and professional director Theresa Gattung spoke on Friday at a forum discussing equal pay and gender diversity in business.
During the Q&A session, when a member of the audience asked how Sir Ralph Norris would have faced Fletcher Building's shareholder meeting this week had he been a woman, Gattung said the construction company would never have been in poor financial state had a woman been at the helm.
"If a woman had been chairing Fletchers, that wouldn't have happened," she said. The room broke into a thunderous applause.
    Dear me.
Theresa (waving a ruby red tube of lipstick) single-handed launched Telecoms bold move into Australia and promptly lost $2.5 billion.
This decimated Telecom which was carved up, renamed and struggled to survive.
It may be argued that Theresa managed to lose more money than any other kiwi ever - man or woman.
    Just saying.

I agree, she was terrible. Caught out in emails saying she supported Telecom's way of keeping customers confused to get the most money out of them too.

It's the risk of having very big companies in a business culture that does not have enough senior management talent experienced in running very big companies.

Given the sub-standard of contemporary reporting, perhaps that was thunderous laughter, rather than applause?

Many will say she is hopeless in the Kitchen too let alone as a CEO.

she was groomed for the Telecom role by Dean. Totally out of her depth.

Disastrous CEO for Telecom, politically naive, created culture of poor customer relations and now suggests the mess with Fletcher's gender based. Truly breath taking.
