  • New toilets in commercial building

Has anyone completely refurbished or updated toilets in a commercial office building ?
Looking at bringing a mid 1980''s office building to 2017
Did anyone switch to unisex ?

Are there any rules about why you need to put in by size or num occupants? I wonder what the rules are about wheelchair access etc...

When you visit Japan get ready to see some seriously tricked out toilets.

check the code requirements to make sure that there are sufficient spaces

You need a handbasin in every cubicle and possibly a lobby for unisex

      see page 13 attached link

if you increase number fixtures you need building consent

if you trigger consent this can mean disabled access and means of escape upgrade if applicable

Not concerned over the regulations the architect will sort out the details .
Just want to chat to someone who has done it to see how successful it was and whether tenant appreciated it (such we could lift the rental)

We did unisex toilets in last commercial, that seemed to work well for an office environment. 4 tenants sharing kitchen, toilets etc. Also added a shower in the disabled toilet, to provide added benefit.

Did it raise the rent? Probably not. But needed to be of a high level to match the rest of the space.
