What has caused the hole ? We had one once and the whole thing was corroded, full length. Some holes were appearing, yes could have soldered it up, but more would have appeared, so cashed it in and repalced with plastic.
Interestingly, it was in a salty zone close to sea, and had an aluminium roof on it. I believe the science of this was all wrong the surfaces were always going to react wrongly. But whatever, it was eaten out and pointless to repair.

yes, copper + aluminium don't play well together
alloy hulled yachts + ferries are generally pretty corrosion proof
but if someone drops a copper coin and it works its way onto some bare alloy, electrolysis will start to eat through the hull
likewise electricians need to be careful not to leave little snippings of copper wire behind them in an alloy hull
your alloy roof was probably shedding tiny particles down on to the copper which caused tiny localised accelerated corrosion
copper gutterings were designed to work with non-reactive slate but ok with less reactive steel
should never be mixed with more reactive alloysLast edited by eri; 27-09-2017, 05:23 PM.have you defeated them?

New product out.
Liquid rubber. Had a look at some samples yesterday. Sprayed onto iron roofs. Going to do one of mine that is starting to leak from rusting. 10 year warranty and half the price of a new roof.
Can be used for lots of situations e.g. caravan leaks
Got some to use on the caravan.
