Re-Roofing Costs (Decramastic Roof / Iron Tiles)

We have a 60m2 unit in a block of two with decramastic roofing which we feel needs replacing as this is the third winter that we have had leaks and it is not getting any better.

We have received one quote for $15k and waiting for others.

Has anyone had a similar sized unit re-roofed and what was their total price?

We have just had decramastic roof replaced and we had to do an asbestos test. Turns out the glue in the backing has asbestos in it then we had to get the men in space suits to remove it which cost about $4000 on top of new roof. (150m2 house). They came all decked out with masks and suits but within an hour the masks came off and they were chucking it around. It went off in a covered trailer, supposedly to a special dump site.

We've just had the same experience as hawkeye. The testing lab can only return a yes or no answer. The majority of the product isn't asbestos so it is complete overkill to treat it as if it was 100% asbestos. The laws around this are ridiculous. It's the same rubbish as P testing.

Hi hawkeye - what part of the country are you in? Was the $4k cost the quoted amount or lower because they found out there was only a limited amount of asbestos?

How much was the roof replacement excluding the $4000 for asbestos removal?

Also, were you aware that they were going to do asbestos test before you went ahead with the re-roofing?

We received another quote much lower but it refers to replacing the current decramastic roof with corrugated iron - I questioned if this needed a council consent but according to the
tradie it does not - does this sound right?

(I've been on the phone waiting to get an answer from council but seems like its forever)
