Default CCC issue - POST Earthquake

Hi Team, We have had a temporary building built after losing our building in the recent November earthquake. The Council hve given us a Certificate for public use at the moment, but we cannot get the builder to sign off on the ceiling diaphram, due to stating that too many people were helping on the day and he didnt want to take responsibility for this. Yes it was a voluntary help situation, but we are stuck now and do not know which way to turn. We need this CCC to continue our business. Thank you for any guidance.

what does the builder have to sign off? what is the paperwork for?

Did the council do a postline inspoection (after the ceiling lining was up) and the fixings were visible?

    How temporary is the building?

    Hi John,
The pre line inspection was missed but the inspector accepted what he could see visually, so this other builder was meant to sign off re: ceiling diaphragm, stating that the screws are 150mm apart. The fixings werent that visible.

The building will be temporary for a very long time due to main building being quite munted.

Thank you for looking at the thread, and look forward to hearing back from you. Michelle

So the builder won't come back and do it? Can another builder do it? Can the Council recommend someone?

    cheers,

Councils generally don't recommend tradespeople. Won't even give a list of options.

Well... I can kinda see the second builder's point here. You want him to sign off on work done by others right? So it's all risk and no reward for him right?

    Hi Donna,
No he wont come back or sign off. His companys name is down as the builders for this area so the council expect him to sign. But we may have to look at getting someone else in to do this, but finances hold us back also, so many bills running ahotel. We have a builder friend who was in the trade for 43 years and is on top of all things but he is no longer registered. It looks like the 150mm distances between the screws in the ceiling diaphragm may not be 150mm, so we may have to go back to square one, which is most unfortunate.

Sort of Dave but he was the builder onsite that day with his workers, and a couple of volunteers.

if it is temporary and you have the CPU why worry about the CCC?

If the buildings up why worry about it?
