An applicant gave me a letter today from WINZ. The letter offers what they call a Tenancy Costs Cover.
The offer is if I will provide the holder with a tenancy then WINZ will provide tenancy related costs in excess of the tenants bond up to an amount equal to four weeks rent.
Now I think this is in clear contravention of section 18A of the RTA. The offer clearly is not a guarantee it is an offer with conditions to provide a bond of eight weeks.
I wonder if the new compliance unit from Tenancy Services MBIE will be looking to catch and prosecute any landlord who participates in this new DSW unlawful offer.
The penalty for contravention of section 18A is $1000.
Any comments folks. Has anyone accepted one of these double bond applicants.
Does WINZ pay when called upon to pay up.
