Just got a call from the painters who are tidying up a house that I'm going to sell. They have discovered that the hot water cylinder has been removed. Looks like a tidy job but I'm reluctant to replace it when the house is likely to be empty for a few weeks. The plumber is going to go and seal it off so we can continue to use the water. Any other advice on what or what not to do in this situation?

On the good side... I've rung the two scrap metal dealers. They both have them on camera. One of them has the copper and the other knows who they are. Police report filed. You can find me at: Energise Web Design

Lost all the underfloor copper on one house and H/W cylinder on two houses in South Auckland,
seems copper collecting is more popular than stamp collecting in Manurewa.
Just tidy up and sell with clause in S and P agreement that new cylinder will be installed a day or two before settlement, sold couple like that no problem.
Pays to have a portaloo and one tap working for tradies.

a mate of mine is a plumber and he had a stash of old WWcs around the back of his garage, his wife made him cut the hedge one weekend and a couple of days later the whole lot vanished, some lowlife had spied them from the road with the hedge being a bit lower, he reckoned about 2ks worth of scrap

Sorry to hear this Drelly, hope you get a king hit price for it to offset the replacement costs
I would just leave it out and furnish into the agreement that you will replace it upon sale, its not like its going to effect the look of the property.
You could always put a fake security camera up and then stickers on the windows advising that the property is under surveillance and monitored however that could cause concern amongst prospective buyers....Fraser Wilkinson

Lucky for you, the hot water cylinder in your rental was empty as in many occasions they are filled and when stolen the entire house is flooded with all floor coverings and sometimes the subfloors are damaged.
Reporting to the police helps with nothing except insurance claim so don't expect much.www.PropertyMinder.co.nz
