Which do you prefer? My section slopes downward from the street, no view, just another neighbour behind the section. I can either have the living area on the ground floor leading to a smallish garden or on the first floor with a deck. Which do you like if you were looking for a house for yourself?

If no view, just have the living area on the ground.
If you have the living area on 1st floor, make sure you design the stairs wide enough to allow a double door fridge (120kg) to go up! We had to dismantle our stainless steel & glass stair handrail before we could get the fridge up the stairs!!!

I always prefer that the floor you walk in on has the living area - just for the flow of a property - I think stairs should be for bedrooms or games room, furniture wise always easier to bring in large fridges and lounge suites on the floor you walk in on

Without a view I'd still go for ground floor living and indoor/outdoor flow but of course I haven't seen the site and there really isn't enough to go on.
Certainly egress in case of fire is hardly ever considered - they just don't happen often enough to be at the forefront of peoples minds.
Doesn't mean it shouldn't be considered but generally isn't.

Older visitors will appreciate downstairs living areas.
Going to bed may be something of a pain, if you suffer a broken leg.
So many pros and cons . . . .
I know an older couple who put in a lift, when they built for a second story view. They're not using the lift yet, but had the future in mind.
