Recently I settled on a new property in Wellington through ASB, first time I've banked with them. I set it all up from overseas, which was painful but we got there.
Anyway, the banker didn't tell me the account number to make sure I have money going in from rent, when I asked him about it I got an auto-reply that he was on holiday. I assumed it's an honest mistake and an offsider there gave me a number to call to get set up, all good. Called the number, proved who I am and we're ready to go right? Wrong. There is a "cooling off" period before online banking can be used. They wouldn't tell me why, how long this is for and they won't contact me once it's finished. I was told to keep calling the bank every other day, they will ID me each time and then tell me if said cooling period was over or not.
I probably didn't help my cause by bursting out laughing as the cooling off policy was explained. It's not the poor girl's fault from the calling centre but it felt like I was in a scene from Office Space.
