    Default Holiday home tax

I would like to start letting our house as a holiday home and stay in the detached sleepout while its rented. Since I am onsite 100% of the time I don't believe I fall into the mixed-use category. It is very hard to find information about if I need to pay tax on the money I receive from letting it out. Any advice?

In almost all cases, when you receive rental money, you will need to pay tax. Just take that as the base position. Your case doesn't seem to be an exception.

In your case, it appears irrelevant that this is a holiday house. It's just a house, and you're renting it out.

If you're renting it for short term stays, you may need to consider GST implications, but only if your turnover (total rent receipts, in this case) is over $60k per year. Unlikely for a single dwelling, but possible at the high end.

    Hi Curious1,

Can I suggest that you try to just write one question/thread. You have already asked a very similar question in another thread! https://www.propertytalk.com/forum/sh...142#post401142
