The Roughans one (two storey) was bought in May last year for $580,000 and they bought it only 4 months later and paid $670,000.
They've been given $100,000 to spend plus about another $70,000 of giveaways.
If you add on their labour and holding costs etc, it would be around $230 - $240k to do what they've done.
If you add that to the original cost of $670,000 they really need to sell for $900,000 just to break even.
In the programme, I think it's only half of the $100k which gets added to the reserve, so totally unrealistic in the real world of doing reno's.Facebook Property Chat Group NZ

Was that using all tradies? I do a lot of the work myself to save $. My first renos I was living in them. This is the first one where I'll be on a ticking clock with holding costs.
It will totally go against the grain to pay someone to do what I can do myself for a lot less of a hit to the wallet, but I'm aware that this time I'm going to have to grin and bear it. I'll just have to do as much as I can in the weekends/holidays.My blog. From personal experience.
