Some tips on reducing noise from bad windows please:
This is actually for my own property I've just bought, not a rental, and please note I am not a DIY genius so won't be heading out on the roof myself to have another look!
I moved in and was shocked at the whistling in the decent wind (go wellington!). There was no wind at the open homes amazingly.
70's aluminum windows in both bedrooms, same side of house.
Had window resealed and made no difference. Resealing person didn't note any other major obvious issues - but said worth a try (a friend who used to install double glazing also).
When I open the windows it makes a difference in strong winds, whistling stops. In gale it does not stop though.
Have tried cardboard (to make them seal tighter still, no effect), have blocked the drain holes, no effect. Have opened the window on other side of room, no effect.
Basically I am more than happy to spend money to fix this properly as I intend to own this for a long time, it's above my bed and is super annoying most nights. So I am looking at double glazing, as I don't really want to put more money into builder's fixes on the things it 'might be' like gaps in the frame and the stays - in case those don't work either on what is an old window anyway.
So - tips on double glazing please? Questions to ask the firms etc? I don't care about the other good properties of the double glazed window I just want noise control as key!
Thanks
