    Default Buyer Beware

Herald Quote from Auckland developer *
"have had two reputable engineering companies come and provide independent advice and both of them have said the workmanship isn't good, but if I plaster it, it is not structurally going to cause any issues,"
I hope he's right .... Auckland and the rest of NZ doesn't need dodgy deals and property timebombs.

Sounds a bit odd wonder if they put that in writing? Doubt it somehow

I wonder if it's a kiwi developer using Asian labour or just cost cutting?

This kind of stuff is terrible. Isn't council meant to check each stage of the build to ensure it is right, before it is built?

On a new build there should be no remedial work and no 'plastering over'

I think it is funny how councils are all over correctly consented sleepouts, parking and other issues, but not over a 115 unit development.

At least council employed building inspectors don't take bribes from developers to pass inspections...

    Or do they (still?)?

the quote screams.... which reputable engineering company would ever say just plaster over workmanship that isn't good. All the engineers I have had the pleasure of dealing with require the full monty

i had a council inspector around to inspect a aspect of my work so i could continue and he was very thorough, the same inspector on his last visit to site noticed the bldr hadnt blocked between the rondo battens and told him that it would need doing, as there was no way of getting to it from above the only way was to pull down 6, 6 meter sheets of 13mm gib, block then regib, he was most surprised that the bldr had done this (at no cost to the client as it was his f up)
