  • Our national anthem has been pirated and improved!

God Defend New Zealand has always been a dreary little tune.
I was therefore surprised and impressed when I stumbled across this on Youtube:

    Moviedrome - Song of Heroes

It's got a slow start but at about 43 sec you get the "God defend NZ" line.
Anyone know anything about Song of Heroes and why did they pinch our national anthem?
I'd be happy to ditch GDNZ and adopt Song of Heroes for our anthem.
It could go well with our new flag.

Umm great for the movies - agreed our anthem is really dreary...and that it needs more of an overall than the flag.

I thought we'd already replaced with with "Loyal" by Dave Dobbin?

Compared with upbeat and inspiring anthems like Land of my Fathers (Wales), Flower of Scotland and La Marseillaise, GDNZ is just dire...long overdue for an overhaul!

Kiwis sick of anthem 'dirge' - Little

Labour leader Andrew Little has described the national anthem as a "dirge" and said many New Zealanders preferred to sing along to the Australian anthem than our own.
The Labour leader thinks so and claims many New Zealanders prefer to sing along to the Australian anthem.

            It's depressing.
Can we replace it with a Lorde song?
