Most of what you say, John, I agree with in principle, and I admire your theoretical views opposing insurance company and council intrusion in what should be a citizen's freedom. However the practicality and reality of making such a stand surely puts your largest assets at considerable risk. Who really wants to test these theories in a court? Who really wants to battle large insurance companies and all their resources should the shit hit the fan? I know many in Chch who would not want a repeat performance of all they have been through.

I am not saying dont tell the insurer what you have got?
What this is about is people not telling because they are afraid the situations are not lawful and it will get them into trouble.
I say if the insurer does push then you have to know your rights to push back harder, and educate the insurer as to what is lawful.

In some ways those that don't have that recourse are better off.
