I'm planning to convert our downstairs portion of the house to a rentable unit but on the same title.
I've heared that if it was a granny flat, then only a family member can live there and cannot legally be rentable. But doing so would mean that I don't have to fire proof and sound separate the tenancy?
So to make it legally viable to rent out later we need to make it a separate tenancy with fire wall and acoustically treat it?
Has anyone has experience with this?
