Oh yeah. In fact in the Herald today, there is a case about the last of the finance company prosecutions! Surely that all happened back in 2008/2009, that's at least 7 years ago...

And the worst part is that it's very likely that the clients will be gazumped by the IRD with tax penalties and interest, rather than the perpetrating fraudster himself.

        Oh for sure.

The people whom he ripped off still have to pay their taxes I think. So have to pay twice.

Well, of course, it is the IRD's job to be fair. So they once asserted. Just who to is like a hung comparative.

But will; the fraudster get off with a wet bus ticket slap? Or will restitution include those taxes, penalties and interest?

                      Nah he doesn't pay anything.

He's a very belligerent ar**ho*e. Thinks I'm the bad guy. Can't accept that what he's done is wrong etc.

Well this guy is now in custody. But his sentencing has been delayed until mid December.

So not sure how long he'll be behind bars.

But glad that's he's inside - even for a little while. Thoroughly deserves it.

Probably the one and only time I'd agree with the O.P.
