Who is buying Auckland Houses

Tony Alexander did his report on who was buying houses a few months back, which made me curious about if there was any other data we could get that would give further insight into this.

The below file is a list 400+ Houses purchased on Auckland's North Shore in the last 6 months with the addresses and owners names

Does this data support his views? I would be interested in peoples analysis.

Wow can't believe he made that public. Where did he get it from?

And what was his view at the time?

This Data is public information.... but his views are that a figure of just 3.6% of buyers nationwide from overseas and not intending to live in New Zealand.

Commenters on the interest.co.nz website have tended to be very sceptical about the results from those surveys. But Alexander's not budging on his view.

“Well, I say bring on YOUR results. Not a single person has come to me with anything other than some sort of sprawling anecdote about the Chinese taking over the world. Come to me with your survey. It only has to be Auckland for instance, showing the proportion of house sales that are going to people overseas. Chinese, poms or whatever.”

Lines 27 to 40: 10 out 0f 14 sound Chinese to me.

But seriously, this is a pretty tricky exercise. For a start, how do you separate out those "from overseas and not intending to live in New Zealand" compared to those who are going to live in NZ. How do you separate out the pommy names?

Yes Davo, that's the hard question. How do we get the real data that tells us how many of our houses are being bought by overseas owners and money, which are two areas of concern for people.

Data can be searched on property guru as one method. Can access resent sales or even every house owner in a street, suburb or town (if really bored). Searches by property, street, suburb, city, owner. If you have a owner of a property you click on their name and it will list every thing they own in NZ, price paid etc. Link that with companies office and you are set. It's only trusts that you struggle on but if you have one property then you have them all.

Asian people dont like beach haven or Devonport, Milf...ord

Not too many in Birkdale

They love Forrest hill, Hillcrest

If you can go back further than six months i can data mine it - i got a bit of spare time - some fancy pivot tables etc.
