  • Looking for Australian-based accountant with NZ knowledge

    HI,

Does anyone know of a good accountant preferably based in Australia with good knowledge of both tax systems with regards to clients who live in Australia, but have assets in New Zealand.

    Thanks

    Hi Tony,

Not exactly what you are after, but John Heaslip from GRA is an Australian CA and very knowledgeable on the tax systems of both countries. He supports a lot of clients in both countries who are investing in or investing from NZ.

John Heaslip is my acccountant and I find him excellent, and he is very nice and approachable. Also the tax expert at GRA is Anthony Lipscombe and I very much doubt you will find a better property tax expert in NZ than Anthony.

          Hi,

I know it's a while ago but did you try John? And how did you find him? Was it helpful?

I have a few IPs here in Auckland (all under own name) and am exploring an option to move to OZ at mo.

Another member on this site recommended an OZ accountant - Reef Accountants in Sunshine Coast - and I have subsequently emailed them the other day but no reply yet.

My main concern of course is (OZ) CGT, and it seems 'a trust' is the way to go what I gathered so far. Who should I talk to?

I have spoken to my accountant who advised me to seek further advice from OZ accountant who specialised in the area.

Any advice or help would be appreciated thanks.

            Hi
I've started to use John Heaslip for NZ tax returns and I'm based in Australia. John has links with an Aus based accountancy firm that do Aus tax returns etc. He can arrange to send all your tax info to them if and when you make the move. I haven't got that far yet so can't tell you what they might advise re structuring in Aus, but it's probably worth a try as I rang a lot of Aus accountants who said they had little or no NZ expertise. I'm hoping GRA will help to simplify the process of submitting both sets of returns.

              Great thanks for your input.
I have also a response from Reef Accountant as well, and will talk to them probably this week.
