Are you looking at swapping insurance firms in CHCH?
If you are I would investigate it very carefully because as far as I know (after discussions with my insurance broker last week) no one is offering new insurance policies to new customers yet unless a new build (under group policy deal like Wigram Skies or westpac etc) or transfering from existing house due to damage (existing customer).Plan and invest wisely - You only get one life so make the most of it!

Some of us are still here. Our latest renewals for around $270k sum insured cover were about $900-950 (Jul 2013, NZI). I don't think Chch over should be any different to anywhere else as I understand that for insurance (and more importantly reinsurance purposes) all of NZ is equally risky seismic-wise.
However getting new cover in Chch is still extremely difficult and shopping around for insurance next to impossible. Your bank of course is likely to have an insurance offering and you may be able to leverage your banking relationship to obtain cover. Otherwise a broker may be able to succeed for you but I am unusure how keen Chch brokers are now on new clients in the reisidential market.

Who has been the least worst insurer?
Looking at http://insurancewatch.org.nz/ it would appear to be Lumley, Tower.
Now that AMI are owned by IAG - I'm thinking of changing insurers.
Is it also worth adding extra LL insurance like rentsure?
Trying to understand the weasel word policies is rather difficult. The three most harmful addictions are heroin, carbohydrates and a monthly salary - Fred Wilson.
