    Default Replacement Timber Weatherboards

I have rotten weatherboard, and am having a hard time finding replacement weatherboard. Took a sample into Mitre 10, Placemakers and ITM, and no luck. The closest I found was a board at bungalow and villa, however the bevel back was slightly larger, but the total width of the board was exactly the same.

If the bevelled part isnt exact, does this matter? Are there are other timber places worth trying?

    Thanks

Have you tried your local demolition yard?

Hi, Thanks, would prefer a brand new pre-primed board. If all else fails however, will look at that.

Central Auckland Suburbs.........I had thought that I could get them custom done....but figured it would be more expensive, but it now looks like thats the option I will have to go with.

Im not familiar with the Auckland timber suppliers, but here in Wellington we have 3 specialist timber suppliers.
they have alot of different profiles and native timbers etc maybe someone else on here can advise of one in Auckland.
If the bevel wasn't exact it wouldn't matter maybe just have to pack the stud to suit so the face of the board flush finished

There are lots of smaller timber suppliers that you can approach directly and for a fee will do a specific run on any profile (almost) you like. However, the cost can be prohibitive.

I have an alternative suggestion for you, which you will need to modify slightly depending on the total number of boards that need replacing.

If it is only a few boards say 10 - 30, that are scattered over the entire house, you could pick a small wall with all boards in good condition and remove and use those to replace the rotten boards.

Then you can clad the small wall with all new boards that only have to match the profile height (I think you are calling this width) of the existing boards. The other dimensions (depth, bevel) wont matter as the new boards will all match on that wall, and only meet the old boards at corners which are covered by either a soaker or boxed corner. They will look pretty much the same once painted.

If the number of boards requiring replacement is higher you follow the same principle and simply end up moving more existing boards.

As long as each wall is only clad in either all original or all new boards that have the same profile height, you don't have to worry about matching board thickness, bevel and profile shape. What will help to stop the eye from seeing the latter differences if they are significant is to break the line of sight as it moves from one wall to another by installing boxed corner facings to all external corners and a boxed trim to all internal corners so the junction between new and old boards is never actually seen.

    Good luck.
