Outside of rush hour, Albany is 15 mins to central Auckland. How many $300k homes can you find 15 min drive to any first world country's major city?
What is your point?
Why is being 15mins DRIVE from the CBD OUTSIDE of rush hour such a big deal.
What are the hours of the morning and evening rush hour from Wairau Rd to CDB and vv.

My point is that Kiwis have unrealistic expectations. The expectation seems to be thinking we should be able to buy a cheap house on a quarter acre, close to a city, have a bach, 2 cars, an overseas holiday every year and afford it all on a low-income job requiring no significant education or personal financial risk.
All the real estate ads I read seem to think it's a big deal. All the commute times they offer were measured at 3am Sunday morning in a Lambo Gallardo running high octane in dry conditions on slick tyres the night after the annual Police convention.
is unrealistic ??
Do these people drive regularly to the CDB outside of the rush hour, and if so for what purpose.
This is not the unrealistic list of high expectations you quoted drelly.
It's day to day life.
Do you think these people have no significant education or personal financial risk by owning these properties?
Or do you consider them to be...
rule by the ignorant, greedy masses!
....as you posted in another thread
So, where North of Albany do you suggest people buy for 300k, Whangarei perhaps?

If we all rode motorcycles there'd be no congestion. There'd be less pollution and road-rage too. It would be a faster trip and parking would be easy (we'd fit 3-4 times as many vehicles into the CBD). In fact, I reckon a free scooter for all rate payers would be cheaper than Len's train set.

My last motorcycle was a 150cc two stroke. Very fast and very economical. Less pollution.....I doubt it.
What do you think of the idea of satellite cities specialising in one type of industry , lots of planning of course. Say a university town like Oxford, with the buildings in a similar style. Or a technology city like Silicon valley…. maybe shift the ports to Tauranga…let the financial district be in downtown …
The basic idea, to draw the concentration away from the central area.
It's a spectacularly dumb idea. Has Labour forgotton about the Christchurch rebuild? Building 100,000 extra homes would put pressure on the costs & supply of labor & materials. The price of every construction would go up & be potentially delayed. Does Shearer plan to import tens of thousands of Chinese workers to get the job done? (that's not a bad idea in itself, but not very "Labour") It's a political stunt that hasn't been properly thought through.
