I was thinking about investing in a mid-size apartment complex (around 200 units) in Australia or even the US. What do you think about such investment? Is it smart to do it in the current economical situation? Is is expensive to maintain apartments and etc.?

Agreed, wouldn't touch the US market, don't have the knowledge and too far away to keep an eye on, let alone the tax implications. Australian market isn't going down, areas like Melbourne, Adelaide and Tasmania are quiet, however Sydney, Brisbane and Perth are picking up rather quickly. There is so much roading infrastructure getting built here in Brisbane (three new inner city t
tunnels and extra hospitals getting built, there is alot happening. Latest figures show we are short 42,500 houses in South East Queensland to keep up with increasing demand.

Gavinc, I have 2 three bedroom houses in QLD and 1 two bedroom house in Sydney. I do not have much experience in apartment investment. I got interested in this type of investment after talking to a property investor who is having great success investing in apartments. But after researching I am not sure if I am able to do it.
