  • Fireplace repair

Yellow pages is useless. lots of chimney sweeps and chimney repairers and fireplace installers but trying to find a fireplace repairer is hard so does anyone know of a good fireplace repairer in Christchurch?
Our woodburner (with a permitted wetback) has a pipe bent in the top of it. Bricks need checking and it sometimes leaks smoke from the top :S So any help is much appreciated.

high gypsum firebricks can be bought in the standard size from somewhere on the northshore of auckland for about $5 each

sounds cheap until you realise that each unbroken brick in the stove will basically fall apart as you remove it to replace the broken brick next to it

so you order 16 for $80 and get them shipped for another $80?

if you flue pipes aren't double walled they will creosote up 2-3cm and greatly reduce the drawing ability leading to smoke leaks

depending on design you may need to disassemble it to clean it if it is badly clogged
        have you defeated them?

Or perhaps get in touch with the woodburner folk who will "recondition" your burner for you......my brother had this done last year....if I recall correctly it cost $450
