A few days ago i received a letter from council stating that among many 1000's of homeowners, my property has been nominated & "lucky enough" [tic]to be spotted & selected for a tree protection notification placement on LIM . Apparently some "tree maniac" has been driving around the leafy suburbs & spotted my tree , as well as many others , & under new "tree protection legislation" wrote to council requesting that protections be placed on the trees .
I have only a few days to object ! Council sent me a 40 page letter which names 1000's of other trees in the area that have also been placed & noted on LIMS!Ironically i wonder how many trees were turned to paper for council to send out 40 pages to each owner, when one page would have sufficed? The owners all have about a week to object! The accompanying front page council letter did not even state the address of the property where my tree was??!! After wading through the notification pages of hundreds of other trees , i finally found my property to which the notice related to .
My tree that the "tree maniac" has requested protection & LIM notification of is an Australian Paper Bark tree which is been eradicated in many parts of the world due to the fact the tree's bark which peels off like several soft heavy layers of paper produces a highly inflammable oil which has caused many forrest fires & burnt all surrounding vegetation. It is so unwanted in Florida that the local government there has released specific bio controlled borer on the tree to try & kill them.
I certainly will be objecting to any kind of protection notation..!And I would still object even if it wasn't an "undesirable" & "dangerous" tree species! Who wants to have any kind of tree notation placed on their LIM report as being protected!!??In some cases owners will lose 1000's of dollars off the value of their properties depending on the placement & type of tree ..
This kind of tree notification rort lends itself to discourage home owners planting trees as council in the future, may place tree protection notations on an owners LIM.
