We are starting off our 2012 keynote line-up with the city’s two chiefs:
His Worship the Mayor Len Brown and
Auckland Council CEO Mr Doug McKay.

His Worship the Mayor and Mr McKay will be speaking to APIA members about Auckland Council’s vision for the growth of our city.

In particular they will address the following points:

How will Auckland accommodate a 50% population increase by 2040?
What areas/nodes are targeted for increased density?
Will public transport be increased around these areas?
Where is Auckland Council looking at significant infrastructure investments?
How can Auckland landlords help play a part in this changing city?
    Answer questions from members

This keynote will give active Auckland investors a valuable framework of where the city, its people and infrastructures are heading over the next 10-30 years.

We also wish to remind our members that our keynote meetings will now be held at the Dorothy Winstone Centre at the Auckland Girls Grammar School.

His Worship the Mayor of Auckland Len Brown

After growing up in South Auckland, Len Brown gained a degree in arts and law at the University of Auckland.

He then joined the Auckland law firm Wynyard Wood where he became a partner and established its East Tamaki branch.

He began his service to the community through founding the Howick Free Legal Service, the Greater East Tamaki Business Association, and as chair of the Counties Manukau Health Council.

Len Brown first entered politics in 1992 as a councillor for Manukau, before becoming mayor in 2007.

After the government merged Auckland’s councils, Mayor Brown successfully stood for Mayor of the new organisation.

His stated vision is to turn Auckland into the “world’s most liveable city”, by focusing on fixing Auckland’s transport system, developing the economy, protecting the environment and supporting local communities.

Len Brown is married with three children and his interests include gardening, reading, sport and singing.
