  • a couple of months ago labour tried to look as fiscally responsible as national by promising to run the same deficit reduction plan

but that promise wasn't polling so well so in some mixed messaging they are sort of ditching it

or parts of the watermelon coalition seem to have

    confused?

hopefully the media will ask the leader what's it all means

hopefully he will be able to explain it

maybe jacinta smiling at his side will make it easier?

    If Labour's Grant Ro
bertson is the next Finance Minister he will ditch the new ambitious net debt targe
t set by Steven Joyce as part of the 2017 Budget or the current target.

The current target of reducing net debt to 20 per cent of gdp by 2020 will be replaced by getting it down to 10 to 15 per cent by 2025, Joyce recently announced.
"We believe there are infrastructure deficits and social deficits that are going to need some investment before we can get to the 20 per cent target," Robertson said.

That had been written into its fiscal responsibility code with the Greens, potential coalition partners.

      No exaggeration at all.
From time to time National get voted out and whoever is in opposition to National, gets voted in.
It's just a matter of time before National sorts itself out and regains power.
With every Labour leader being butt-ugly, now's the time for Jacinda to take a step to the right, place her hands on her hips, bring her knees in tight, do a pelvic thrust and drive us all insane....

      • David Lange was pretty good Bob. Not pretty. But good

When he did that debate at Oxford union (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeHTziiFVx0) I think most people, left and right, were proud to be a kiwi.

Read his autobiography recently. He basically got ground down by the job, pity.
        Squadly dinky do!

        • Lange made it up as he went along

pragmatic conservatives tolerate that as long as the job gets done

but even if the "people" are happy

lefties go out of their minds if they're being ignored

so the labour caucus knifed him

          meanwhile a few little contradictions....

Labour's housing policy... promise to build 100,000 houses while opposing two major developments in Auckland was "ridiculous".

English also said the party was contradicting itself by planning a large building programme while planning to cut migrant worker numbers, saying its approach was "just dumb".

but a lot to do with kiwi attitudes towards politicians

He was very sharp and quick witted.
His smartest move was to appoint Prebble and Douglas and let them tear the old Muldoon-NZ apart and set us up to compete on the world stage.
His mistake was to stop for a cup of tea.

Jacinda does the time warp and becomes leader.
This is too easy picking the next Labour leader.

Ardern: 'Making Aucklanders pay more only fair'

Labour leader Jacinda Ardern says her party will put in a regional fuel tax to help pay for Auckland's transport.

That is a "tough call" that will be unpopular but is necessary, Ardern told TVNZ's Q&A today.

Ardern, who spoke of growing up in Morrinsville and how "middle" New Zealanders were struggling, said making Aucklanders pay more for their petrol was only fair.

"This is a message to the rest of New Zealand as well - Aucklanders know that we have to contribute to the problem that we have, whilst building a partnership with central government to fix these problems."
Before unveiling Labour's transport plans, Jacinda Ardern explains her 'tough call'.

                      • apparently 5c a ltr auckland fuel tax wouldn't raise enough

but they could start at 5c then jack it to 10c as soon as they could get away with it

that'd be $4 - $6 extra per fill for our car

                        • Bob she was never going to win the election. What she said or does isn't going to change that this round. I heard an interesting interview with someone who worrled with her. They labelled her an "idealogue" and as such would be a waste of space. The more people know her the less they will like and trust her.....

                          • Here's another thing to be worried about:
An ambitious plan for light rail across Auckland has been released by Jacinda Ardern

He (Labour's Auckland Issues spokesman Phil Twyford) said Labour was going to build an Auckland where you do not have to own a car to live.
Who will be paying for this grandiose plan of public transport across all of Auckland?

I think Jacinda's 3 day honeymoon with the media has gone to her head.

Why on earth a Labour party leader would say to their constituents (working people) that they have to pay more to fill the car each week, is beyond me.

Usually these things are done after you've won an election aren't they? Not before.

                              • so not only is jacinda's plan to tax us $5 each tank of gas

                                but also "targeted" rates

so another couple of hundy a year?

if council thought your property stood to benefit from light rail etc
