Well of course the really successful fellows are lying on some beach reading a book while their long-term property investments are filling their bank accounts each week. They have no need to be active any more.

I think it is a bit harsh to comment on any investors, unless you know their full situation. I personally often think that I would love to see some of these people's financial statements, to see their real picture.
But without seeing everything, it is really hard to judge how someone is really doing. It is possible that these people are doing very well, or possible that they are doing very badly. None of us really konw.
From experience, I often see clients with a flash car (Porsche etc) who flash it around. But in reality it is leased or with a big HP. Then there are other extremely wealthy people, who have an old run down car. So I suppose it goes back to the old saying, "you can't judge a book by it's cover"

Has anyone read his book? What type of level of investor is it targeted at? I see its $37.99 at Whitcouls.

I have read most books and DVD's and listened to most mentoring spiels, have met with a couple of the self promoted guru's.
Its not a bad earner for them, even 20 students at a modest 10k a year is 200k a year - wow maybe I should start one up.
And I think Ron Hoy Fong would be most valuable.
I had a good chat with him, and his pet agent
And he has one night a week where they all meet up and discuss potential deals you have, I have had lunch with one of the members.
They look at properties once a month also I think, but you get Ron's cheap tradie contacts, broker contacts.
I would have joined, but with a young family I dont have 1 night free a week to do that.

Yes the students meet up every Thursdays, but you don't need to attend each week.
The class room session is the most valuable. The Road Trip type is really for newbie students.
The trades, banking & valuer contacts are most valuable. The good thing is each student brings their own contact too, so the networking is great.
Also since we have a facebook setup now, student activities in the market has gone sky high ever since.

Aha.... so one of the converted I see.
Yeah I would love to do it, Ron even offered me a good deal as my R/C account was dismal at the time, but young kiddies need me.
How many come along on average every Thursday Nor ?
Edit: what time does it start ?

Usually 12-20 for the Road Trip (we have Classroom and Road Trip alternate between Thursdays). Start 6:30pm
and 20-40 for Class Rooms. Start 7pm
PS: there is no time limit to the membership, however, Ron's time available to you will diminish the longer you stay with the group (ie 12 months+), like I am, as Ron's time are concentrated on new students.

From David Whitburns website:
Our mentoring students get:- Initial strategy review and planning session
- 3 FULL days (9-5) of intensive 1 on 1 (feel free to bring your spouse or business partner) property mentoring
- 60 days of unlimited phone and email support after your 3 days of intensive property mentoring are over
- 4th day where you can have appointments with our team of experts (the appointments do not necessarily have to take place in one physical day)
- Property Mentoring Manual and tools (including example contracts, clauses, checklists, etc…)
- Enjoy lunch and drinks with your mentor paid by us during the 3 days you will be hunting down deals
- Attend our Quarterly Market Updates free of charge for 1 calendar year after you complete your 3 day mentoring.
I went back to Whitcouls and read the first bit of his book today. looks interesting. tax deductible expense too. went to buy it but didn't have my bloody wallet!

If you were to go out and do a deal in these three days... you could make your money back plus some... would pay for the course too. When you look at it like that, it doesn't seem like much.

20k for 3 days? I don't see the benefit at all, when other mentors are providing much better service (longer) for similar if not less price.
Also he said in APIA that he spends $70k on renovations on this trades...
Now I really want to find out to what extend he 'renovate' his properties, when I and other students (of a different property coach) do our renos between $3k to $15k.Last edited by NovInvestor; 17-11-2011, 12:54 PM.

I often spend more than I should, the costs just keep adding up.
