I have heard about stupid things being required to get a CCC but until you have to jump the hurdles you will never know.
I finished off a building alteration and extension to a commercial three years ago and thought I better sort it before the council comes and does something cruel to me.
Firstly they say ah ha, you have not marked the parking bays. You better do that and also we require an evacuation plan.
So I dutifully got the parking bays painted. Suddenly all hell broke lose. The rotten public coudl see were the carparks were and started parking there thus blocking my multiple tenants access to the loading bays.
Then I lodged the evacuation plan as per the NZFS website application form.
I have done these things before so am familiar with things like signs, assembly points and wardens.
After months of delay the NZFS explain they have been down sized and the new person from out of town eventually arrives in Town.
You have not filled in the form correctly he patiently explains. Well I fill in all the blanks I say. You have to delete the writing on it and besides whats more despite not specifying it our computer can not cope with jpg files. I want you to convert all jpf files showing the evacuation plans as dutifully put on each of the tenancies, to pdf files.
Ok I say and limp off.
Then the council asks for a plan to show them where all the call points and exit doors are so they can check that the doors exist and call points and bells exist.
So we have to get a plan drawn up showing all this.
A few months and a few hundred dollars later they grant the CCC .
But hang on I think what do I do about all the free loaders on the car parks.
Simple over paint them in yellow and hey presto the problem goes away.
So in return for about $1000 I get my bit of paper and world is wonderful again.
I ask you. Surely I have missed something here.
