Hi
I'm selling my property privately. Last night I was contacted by an agent (who sells in my area) to say he had a person interested in viewing my property.
I reiterated that I was selling privately and not looking for an agent. He said that this person was motivated to buy on my street and was going to pay a "finders fee" so if the viewing resulted in a sale there would be no agent cost to me.
Now...then the agent said he wanted to show the person through the property (not with me) and that due to new REA law changes, that even though I was not using this agent or responsible for any fees that I would need to sign a piece of paper allowing my property to be listed on his company site for 24 hours.
This has raised a red flag for me. Under new legislation should I, as the owner, need to sign anything with the agent, if there is to be no contract between me and the agent i.e. the agent will be getting a finders fee from the prespective buyer but no commission from me. Also what about "having to list our property on their site for 24 hours" - is this true? And wanting to show the person through without me present - is this common....?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
