Nearly a quarter of a million New Zealanders use at least one false name, and more than half of those have not paid their bills.

No wonder we, as landlords, have such a hard time completing credit checks!

      The Hawke. Brilliant. Bob, perchance?

If you were called Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii, I think you'd use an alter ego too.

I note a lot of Asians use alias so that people can pronounce their names (as do other nationalities where their official name is traditional - even Maoris do this).

I use an alias, Davo36. Only 249,999 left to figure out.

I still use my maiden name in daily communication. It doesn't get quizzical looks or if pronounced "can you spell that for me?" response....like my married name = Krisjanous which in itself is wrong it's supposed to be 'Krisjanovs'.

So I guess we're now down to 249,998

            Cheers,

I know plenty of folks who go by their middle name. Does that count as an alias?

it does if they only use it sometimes

esp. if they have an occasional sig. and an official sig.
                have you defeated them?

As I dimly recall, the use of an alias is
lawful, except when used to deceive.
                  (In NZ, anyway)

That's why you need to analyse your results you get from Veda or TINZ because it could come back with no record because it is a fake name with no history, not because the individual has good credit.

So always sight (and take a photo of) Photo Id (ideally NZ driving license) and use this to validate the VEDA search. Also helps at the bottom of the cliff when handing over debts to collections agencies.

The legal limit for letters and spaces in NZ is 100. I have just 28 but still, the system can't handle it.
