I think $3600 in total for the whole service is a really good price. Do you know how to do the specfication, bracing calcs, show how the waterproofing works, the downpipe calculations with roof area, insulation ratings, to name just a few?
There is way more work to be done once the plan is drawn - I think you are underestimating the work your designer has to do for his $3000. Once the "grizzle letter" comes back from the council you will know what I mean.
To be honest, $3000 is not alot to pay to make sure your renovation is compliant with no CCC issues at the end of it.
I have learnt through experience that when you are told something by council - such as your window issue - to get it in writing, 'cos you can be sure it will be dealt with by someone else who has a different opinion.
