        • Note there is no specific mention that this survey related to rentals - it seems to have covered owner-occupied as well.

Hence our strong recommendation that any legislation to cover residential warrant of fitness should apply to all homes, not just rentals.

            Like that will happen.

The proponents of the rental WOF make a case that owners can upgrade their property but tenants cannot. They also make the case that certain housing conditions lead to sick children. Which case also applies to owner occupied of course. Slippery slope right there.

Certainly there are some rentals in poor condition but IMO any research into sick children must include overcrowding and household electricity cost as key factors. These do sometimes get a mention but mainly the direct causal link is imperfectly drawn between certain property conditions and sick or injured kids.

You're on track, there. But what slippery slope do you mean?

And you're being charitable, there. The sorts of research you refer to are akin to government consultations and surveys: designed to get the answer they want.

As Flyer et al have oft observed, targeting LLs is so easy and so populist. Targeting electricity costs is harder (because of gov't stealth tax SOE dividends) and overcrowding - again mainly because of gov't policies.

So much more politically expedient and tenable to point the finger elsewhere.

              • Not NZ related but still sticking it to the council- even if you don't like her choice of colours!

Judge quashes order to repaint London house, in win for property developer who denied choosing colour scheme out of spite

                  • Thousands of Christchurch netballers have had their first game for the season axed due to the lack of a city council certificate allowing public use of a building.

"As always, public safety is paramount, and it is essential that due diligence is followed to ensure buildings can be safely occupied."......

Earlier on Friday, a council spokeswoman said it had not received the evidence it needed for the certificate.

Council staff had been working with CNC since February 8 and on Thursday had "not yet made a decision as to whether a certificate for public use can be issued [on Friday]", the spokeswoman said.

I used to play down there on Saturday mornings. Back then, that building didn't exist. Didn't stop hundreds of games being played each week. Why didn't they just do without the kitchen/physio for one day? Sheesh.

Not sure what your point is?

Do you mean we shouldn't be complaining about the council? Or that we are just whiny in general?
