Why is that so? What is it with us kiwis, or the system, or whatever-you-want-to-call-it, that seemingly, nothing can be done to shaft those who egregiously shaft ratepayers and taxpayers?
No-one with the power to change it will do so.
Why?
Because when their turn come around they can then claim the same - or even more.
What is the justification for this hotel targeted rate?
Note how many other targeted rates there are too. A rate. Then an extra bit for this, and an extra bit for that, and oh yes, we need a bit more for this project over here... never ends.
I wonder if they bring in this 10c a litre fuel tax...
When the tax comes in you can drive down to Wellington and pay another 25c a ltr more without the extra tax or 35c more in Christchurch. All of us outside Auckland, our hearts bleed for you. Hahahahahahaha...

Would be interesting to see a breakdown of what each town/city in NZ pays in taxes etc, versus what it gets back spent on it.
My daughter was up from Dunedin last week, she complained about the price of petrol that she pays, but then spent couple of days going places, she thought that she was better off as it takes so long to get anywhere here.
Leaked review shows more than 200 communications staff employed at council organisations.
"I think it's outrageous that so many comms staff, 234 of them, should be being employed by Auckland Council, just as spin doctors," Ratepayers' Alliance Spokesperson, Jo Holmes, said.
"I have no idea what they can possibly add to the price of cheese. And I know that Phil Goff should be looking for savings and he's simply not finding them because his staff budget is just blowing out all over the place."
The findings of the review will confirm Goff's concerns during last year's mayoral campaign that there are too many communications staff at council. "You have got to wonder whether that figure isn't way above what it could be", he said, referring to the then number of communications staff.
The findings follow this month's salary scandal at council - 194 staff now earn above $200,000 - and will not help Goff's plan to hit motorists with a 10 cents per litre petrol tax to help fund a multi-billion dollar investment in trams.
Yes, but I don't reckon anything will change. How many politicians campaign on reducing costs? Heaps. How many actually reduce costs, bugger all I'd say.
Still, these sorts of things have to be highlighted because imagine what they'd be like if no one complained at all.
