Councils Holding the Country to Ransom

Yep, so National are finally starting to take action in this area. And I think eventually they will have a big effect.
But it's been so long coming and will still take a long time to actually be implemented and take effect.
Plus councils will fight it tooth and nail, perhaps introducing other (or increasing existing) charges to replace these.
Will be interesting to see how it plays out. I might well make a submission on this.Squadly dinky do!

Council Driven Innovation
We can't do it ourselves, the council needs to show us how innovation is done:
Auckland's new waterfront innovation hub takes shape with development starting on first building
Posted in Property February 15, 2013 - 09:27am, David Chaston
The redeveloped John Lysaght building will be center of the Wynyard innovation precinct
Auckland Council and the MBIE have launched its innovation precinct in the Wynyard Quarter on Auckland's waterfront.
It has identified the gritty 90 year old John Lysaght art-deco building as the first stage in the development of a ICT and digital media hub.
Work will start on the redevelopment later this month on the 1,600m2 development which will house the first 6 tenants for the hub.
Eventually, the Wynyard Quarter will be home to about 7,000 businesses, and is expected to employ some 35,000 people.

RIGHT! Another dose of "we know best." Make a note now, David,
to re-visit this tale, every 12 months, so you can report on how
well it works and how thrilled ratepayers are to be contributing
towards it, even if they had no choice and probably gain little -
if any - benefit. I wonder if financial figures specific to the dev-
elopment will be in the Council's annual accounts?

You are as cynical as me Perry. But we're both right.
Just a bunch of bureaucrats saying to themselves "We can do innovation, we can create a place for it!. Don't leave it to the private sector or it won't happen."
And of course they have a never ending, always expandable income stream to make it all happen.Squadly dinky do!

Len +Penny use rates money to hire more spin doctors to help win re-election
Mr Brown's hiring of Dan Lambert took his tally of spin doctors to six - more than the entire parliamentary Labour Party.
Labour has five parliamentary press secretaries and a part-time speech writer for 34 MPs. Prime Minister John Key has four press secretaries and one media assistant.
Mr Brown refused to answer questions about communications staffing under his leadership.
Mr Lambert blocked repeated requests by the Herald to speak to the mayor, saying: "I think it's reasonable the mayor wouldn't want to go on record on a matter like this."
have you defeated them?

Article today in the Herald about the Unitary plan. Auckland Council has lots and lots of plans, spatial, waterfront blah blah blah. But this is the one that is about rolling out the same rules in all parts of the city i.e. unifying the 7 previous district plans which all contained different rules about development, zoning, costs, how you can wipe your nose etc.
The article is not particularly interesting, it's just creating some fear around high rises etc. But what I found really intersting is the video embedded in the article from Auckland Council. It's everything I hate about these kinds of organisations. They're ramming through a bunch of changes which no one has been consulted on, and repeatedly telling us a) It's being done by 'us' and b) It will be a set of rules to make everything better - no matter who you are, age, race, culture, you will be better off.Last edited by donna; 21-03-2019, 12:21 PM.Squadly dinky do!

The cost to the SWDC in Tokoroa is now up to $100,000 for wanting to have a "dangerous" dog put down.
Damn, that means that will take me 15 years paying rates on my properties to pay for it."There's one way to find out if a man is honest-ask him. If he says 'yes,' you know he is a crook." Groucho Marx

Thanks Dave. The suggested youtube clip at the end was of the Auckland Pride Parade. Much better viewing.

Are the inherently apathetic? Or have they
been ground down through frustrations in
trying to deal with bureaucratic parasitism?
Both constituents and those elected.
How'd the Marae Hearing go, Shalodge?

Even the oldies can't catch a break.
No go for Summerset's Hobsonville village
Summerset has had its resource consent to build a retirement village on the outskirts of Auckland declined, but the firm says this will not affect its development timetable.
The Auckland Council yesterday notified the company that while the proposed Hobsonville development would have positive effects for the wider community, it did not meet existing landscape and heritage standards in its present form.
