Hello All
There is something I thought I'd share with you all.
I have been a property manager for the past two months coming from a very different background and I must say, I’m really enjoying it. The human interaction in dealing with landlords and tenants, whist not always peachy, has on the whole been a genuinely pleasing experience.
A key observation I have noticed is that property management is not straight forward. As such there are many different skill sets involved in becoming an effective property manager with multiple properties. In principle property management is quite linear, but it’s important to drill down a bit. On top of having a head for the numbers, one must also have a head for legalisation or the words.
In conjunction with the aforementioned analytical skills, a good property manager must also tap into their soft side or use Emotional Intelligence (EI). This becomes very important when dealing with landlords, tenants and other relevant stakeholders as there is sometimes a strong emotional element to residential property management.
Moreover the hard (analytical) and soft (emotional) skills amalgamate when, for example, a property manager is required to advocate for their landlord at the Tenancy Tribunal.
Property management has massive potential now and in the future and it's an exciting time to be in the industry. Property Management is a job I feel I'm proud to be doing at the moment.
Many thanks
Marcus
