Hi there,
Hopefully someone has some experience with this. We need to fix a leaking shower in our rental property and decided (with the tenant's enthusiastic agreement at the time) to completely refit the old 60s bathroom.
We're now underway with the builder/plumber ready to go. The plumber phoned the tenant to explain that the shower will be out of action for a couple of days. All of a sudden the tenant is now threatening not to pay rent while the bathroom is being fixed because she's claiming she has to move out as she won't be clean.
I believe she legally can't 'not' pay rent - but need to look this up. Also thought about reducing rent while work was underway, but upping it to reflect the bathroom upgrade after it was finished - but this seems a very complicated solution. Anyone have any experience with a situation like this?
I would have thought the tenant would be stoked to get a brand new bathroom?! Maybe I was being naive?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated
