Houses have SOLD for 1M+ in the last year in The Gardens & Polo Prince area which although may have there own little names are still Manurewa. Polo Prince are small lifestyle blocks most being 1 and 1/4 acre blocks but the Gardens are 600m2 to 1/4 acre section. There are also a few that have sold for over a million down in Wattle Cove/Mahia Park area which have section sizes the same as the Gardens but not in the last 12 months.
Well they call it multiculturalism and it's always touted as a good thing by the lefties. You know, interesting, diverse communities, how lovely.
The trouble is all of these immigrants have their own ideas about how to go about business. So trying to do business with an Iraqi can be different to doing business with a Korean which is different to how and Indian person does it and so on. It actually causes a lot of friction. It's not all, "Gee they have a different take on things, I should learn from that..." it's more like "The f***in ***** doesn't wants me to drop my price by half...".
And then you have the more established cultures here: The Maori think it's all theirs anyway and we're all tresspassing, the Europeans who have been here for 4-5 generations reckon things should be done certain ways, the Pacific Islanders are just confused and so on.
So while I think the world all has to eventually amalgamate and the sooner the races/cultures/people all put aside their differences and just get along the better, this is not going to happen very quickly. Whenever you get different cultures coming together - anywhere in the world, you get friction. This is just human nature.

I think its more subtle than that.
My take its that it the RATE of cultural change and the cultural dislocation, along with plain old poverty and low educational standards that is the root cause.
Much of London is quite effective ad a multi cultural community, but new ethnic groups take generation or two to bed in.
Italians are now part of the background rather than prisoners of warp (1940's) people spat on.
The Caribbean culture is now part of the mix. Indian Curry is now the English national dish. However looking "muslim" is a bad idea after dark :-(
Compare to Glasgow, a most celtic white city, with some of the most savagely messed up poor suburbs in Europe (I'd argue way more than S Auckland). It's not just a race / immigrant thing.

"It's alcohol, drugs, unemployment - it's just a never-ending, downward-spiralling environment. And when people do get on their feet, they move. Clendon statistically is worse than Otara and Mangere." Otara youth worker Sully Paea said: "Clendon is the Otara now. They have bigger issues in 'Rewa now than we have."..............................
........in most parts of Clendon and Manurewa, almost half of all families with children now have only one parent at home - a higher proportion of sole parents than anywhere else in South Auckland, except parts of neighbouring Takanini and Papakura. And, partly as a result, most parents are on benefits.
"The world is passing through troublous times. The young people of today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as if they knew everything, and what passes for wisdom with us is foolishness with them. As for the girls, they are forward, immodest and unladylike in speech, behaviour and dress." Peter the Hermit 1274
Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for
authority; they show disrespect for their elders, and love chatter in
places of exercise. They no longer rise when elders enter the room.
They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up their
food and tyrannize their teachers. - socrates 44bc
