What they've got now is a $78,000 debt, no car and worsening health problems caused in part by stress.
The Porritt Ave, Huntly, home they owned freehold two years ago was to have been sold at mortgagee auction on Friday.
But last night after a call from the Waikato Times, Westpac instructed Harcourts Huntly to defer the sale until the New Year pending the results of a police investigation into the brokers' methods and what penalty Cambridge lawyer Ray Harris receives today from the New Zealand Law Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal.
Mr Harris was found guilty last week on serious misconduct charges involving property scams brokered by Mr McKelvey in Cambridge and Taranaki.
