Default relocating the laundry to the gargage?

    Hi,

We are looking at purchasing a 3 bedroom property. We thought we could convert the large laundry into a 4th bedroom, the laundry would be put in the garage. Does anyone have experience, or know how difficult it would be to put the plumbing for the laundry in the garage? (it's a concrete floor).

    Thanks.

Get a quote from a plumber. Have a plan showing where the drainage is to show him.

Decide later if you want to do it yourself.

caniry: The pumps on modern washing machines usually generate very good pressure. So you should be able use horizontal piping, running on top of the concrete floor, to get the nearest available sewerage or stormwater connection. (You will need to check the rules re "grey water".)

A laundry sink might be more of a problem - but why have a sink at all?

Keep in mind, you will need to get a minor building consent to move the laundry (due to plumbing etc).

Is this still required under the new regs that mean you don't need a building consent for 'the alteration to existing sanitary plumbing' under certain conditions:

yes, but you are putting in new pipes to the garage (or a new gully trap) you will need a minor consent.
I'd definitely check with your local council first.

We’re selling a place in Pakuranga that we had done exactly that and all that was required was an up dated plan showing the new room and laundry.

    Still best to check

Did the same thing last year, and it wasn't too difficult although I have a friend who is a plumber who gave me a hand. Would definitely check with the council first though and see whether you need permission for it. Better than getting caught out at a later date. Shouldn't be an issue though.

it shouldn't be too difficult as you will be able to put it through the wall to an outside gully trap.
