The median home price fell to $200,500 in the third quarter of 2008, a drop of nearly 9% from last year, according to data released today by the National Association of Realtors. A glut of foreclosures was mostly responsible for the drop.
Here is a look at what a buyer can expect to get for about $200,000 in four U.S. cities. We found these homes by searching Zillow.com for sales that closed in Q03 2008.
1025 Moreno Way, Sacramento, Calif.
Home prices in Sacramento, Calif., fell by 36.8% from $335,700 in Q03 2007 to $212,000 in Q03 2008. This house at 1025 Moreno Way went for $200,000 on August 26. Built in 1989, the 1,521-square-foot house has three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms.
2378 West Sleepy Ranch Road, Phoenix
In Phoenix, the median home price declined by 27.6% to $185,100 in Q03 2008, compared to Q03 2007, when it was about $255,500. This house located at 2378 West Sleepy Ranch Road sold for $200,000 on September 15. Built in 2005, the 1,904-square-foot house has three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms.
129 Silverwood Street, Mobile, Ala.
Median prices in Mobile, Ala., rose slightly, going from $136,300 in Q03 2007 to $138,700 in Q03 2008. This home at 129 Silverwood Street sold for $198,448 on September 26. The 1,915-square-foot house has four bedrooms and two bathrooms.
204 NW 17th Street, Oklahoma City
In Oklahoma City, median home prices increased 1.6% from $130,000 in Q03 2007 to $132,100 in Q03 2008. This three-bedroom, two-bathroom house at 204 NW 17th Street in Oklahoma City sold for $200,000 on September 23. The 2,066-square-foot house was built in 1918 on a 7,280-square-foot lot.
