It is really sad that this is happening.

Financial woes are causing havoc in families

Couples are taking their stress out on each other as a recession looms, with relationship breakdowns becoming more common, says Takapuna counsellor Louise Chapman.

Ms Chapman sees first hand the havoc tough finances cause for North Shore couples and families.

Dwindling numbers on the stock market are resulting in growing problems in relationships, she says.

More people have been coming through her door asking for help.

"Often couples will come in fighting and arguing, they’re thinking of leaving, and we find the root is often financial.

a recession will certainly cause more stress to couples

i have a friend with 3 young children who has been renting a small apartment for years

here in japan house prices have never been cheaper and i've been pointing out small affordable houses in his area

after many different reasons why none were acceptable he finally admitted that apparently his wife can't stand him and that they have agreed to stay together for the sake of the children. when they are old enough for the breakup to have less effect he will return to the states

which reminds me of another friend in australia who spit from his wife a year after buying a house together

she stopped paying her half of the mortgage and went to live with her parents, for another year he paid the full mortgage himself

during the divorce proceedings it became apparent that she would neither pay her half of the mortgage nor release her share to him

so he felt he had no choice but to walk from the house and leave it to the bank to sort out

relationships are the rock that our lives are built on, not the rock that we live on
    have you defeated them?
    your demons

staying together for the sake of the children is not a goodie in my opinion because in the long run it does more harm.

The children will grow up watching a disfunctional relationship and think "thats how you have a relationship" and enter into their adult relationships making the same mistakes as the parents.
